Real Talk | Project Update RCD

Hello, RCD readers!

I thought it was time to pull back the curtain and share a little "day in the life" of my studio. This month has started with a steady rhythm, and I’m embracing the flow. I’m currently waiting on a few potential clients to decide on their next steps. I’ve learned that when someone decides not to move forward, that is a clear answer in itself—which allows me to move on and focus my energy on what is right in front of me.

The Balancing Act

Yesterday, I had a meeting for a potential collaboration. I always find it interesting to sit down with a contractor and their client. It’s a delicate dance because there is never a guarantee that the client will choose that specific contractor.

I often refer contractors I know, but I’ve learned that the "chemistry" between a client and a contractor is unpredictable. Sometimes they never call, sometimes the vibe just isn't right, or the budget doesn't align. I’ve occasionally taken some heat for this, with people assuming I’m not referring them or that I’m being selective. I used to feel the need to defend my character, trying to prove I wasn't being "spiteful" or "greedy." But I’ve stopped that now. People’s inability to see my intentions clearly is not my responsibility. Does it still sting when I'm misunderstood? Yes. But then the real world kicks in, and I remind myself: stop focusing on other people's opinions of you.

Project Updates

Project B

This week, I’ve been wrapping up the site report for Project B, following my visit last week. I love meeting clients who truly inspire me—this client is a young woman who is absolutely making things happen. It’s always motivating to see someone working so hard for their dreams. We ended up adjusting her roof plan to something more budget-friendly after some expert advice, even if I still secretly think her original design would have been stunning! Now, it’s onto the technical drawings.

Potential Projects

My calendar has been busy with appointments, both via WhatsApp and in person. I’ve officially filled all my July slots for these two weeks. I did have a little communication mishap recently—a form wasn't filled out correctly, and I misread a text while on the road, which cost me two days of back-and-forth. It’s a good reminder that even when things get hectic, slowing down for a moment is necessary!

I’m also navigating a new inquiry from someone who wants me to use entirely different software and is pushing for an unrealistic timeline. I’m currently processing all the information to draft a plan of approach that aligns with my standards.

Project M

I’m not entirely sure how this client found me, but he had questions about my pricing. It gave me a great opportunity to clarify why I stand by my rates. I explained three key pillars of my service:

  1. Transparency: I provide frequent, hands-on updates.
  2. Ongoing Support: I continue to offer advice and consultation even after the project is officially finished. My goal is to make the dream a reality, not just hand over a file.
  3. Comprehensive Concepts: I provide installation concept drawings, which go beyond the standard requirements for the building department. That is simply my standard.

People often assume a business owner’s price is 100% profit, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. My rates cover administration, maintenance, project-specific costs, and growth. What’s left is what keeps the lights on!

Today’s To-Do List

✅ Send payment receipt
➡️ Draft offer and plan of approach for yesterday’s consultation
✅ Confirm location for Sunday’s site visit
➡️ Resolve the communication glitch for Wednesday's pending consult
➡️ Finish June’s financial administration
➡️ Head to the studio to teach my "sky ballerinas"
➡️ Sketch a potential design for yesterday’s consultation

I’m ending this week strong and intentional. I’ve even decided to bring a helper along for my next site visit—sometimes, a little extra set of hands makes all the difference.

Until next time, keep dreaming and building
