Home = Safe Haven
Hello RCD readers,
Home is suppose to be your safe haven. It's suppose to be not only the place where you rest your head but also the place where you come back to yourself. As an architect my biggest thing is creating something that's not only functional but my client's safe haven. This is also the reason why I enjoy the process when clients really articulate their dream
I have project's that take a long time because the client changes their mind. And I work patiently with them because I also say " this part is the less expensive part make the changes now instead of during building ".
My last blog post I spoke about a project that the client didn't pay and my response. But my lack there off because it felt like it was a waste of time. I followed up on other project's from last year and the response felt amazing. They are at ring beam. And super excited and happy to be that far with building. I couldn't be more overjoyed. Over the year's you get those client's that just starting their family and you get to be a little puzzle in their storyline.
Project J
This was one of my first project's. First "flat roof" design. It was a young couple still in school. It was also my first clay soil. It was like jumping in with the ocean. But I went for it. The roof had to be done in wood instead of the normal steel choice was outside their budget range. The client is still super happy with everything. The whole proces was a labour of love.
Project RH
This one hits close to home. It was a downsizing project for a couple that have been married for a couple of years. They just had their second child. They made a design years ago when the economy was good and their design was possible. But in 2019. They wanted a different design that was possible for this economy. This time I removed the huge house and we made the design a home. I like the first design but it was all for show and not for that comfort feeling of being home. And I believe my design actually smashed this comfy feeling.
Project W
This was also a young married couple when I just started RCD studio in 2022. I didn't have my license so I had to do it through a colleague for the building permit. They checked and delivered. This was my first multy family home. It was out of the box thinking. Combine two separate houses.
Project M
This was a divorcee. She wanted to redesign her house. I was so blessed to be a part of her rebranding. She needed an interior lift up. It was overall an succes but also a client for life. We made her house just for her alone and ofcourse safe because she is stepping into a different phase of her life that was not planned.
Project AN
This was an Facebook follower for a long time. So when He contacted. I didn't expect a nervous person. He was stepping into uncharted territory. Building is a big step in life. And being a woman. I definitely let my feminine motherly side take over and do my best to ease this person into this phase. By letting them feel comfortable. Which is why I keep it casual. Especially when it comes to homes. Not houses but homes. It's a different. My client's safe up for this part of their life. So to make their dream possible and feeling in the end this is exactly what they wanted. That feels amazing. And them knowing they can always ask me for help.
Project S
One of my biggest supporters/colleague. She is so inspiring. We are making multi family houses for generational wealth. And to be a part of that is great. From a simple fence to three tiny homes. One is being built. The second one I'm starting next week. And third is in the future. Knowing that I helped push her to actually making her dream a reality feel amazing.
Project D
This project's building phase starts in March. This started with a simple renovation for a acquaintance whom needed a design for his client. Funny thing the client never said they wouldn't pick them. We redesigned so that his mother could sell flowers also. Which I found amazing.
Now for my home. I feel like I'm blessed to have a home that is functional for every area of my life. And a lot of people need to get out to feel centered. They feel like they are not home when they are in their house. I feel like a turtle. Spending time cooking , laughing etc with ❣ in a place you call home. That's the best feeling ever.
As I'm ending this blogpost. Maybe the last one for awhile. We'll see. Check my newest RCD clip inspiref by project AN. Enjoy
