Misconceptions | Day in the life RCD

Hello RCD readers,

As we've slipped into the new month. I would love to take a look back into some of my 3D project's.

Why do people want a 3D model?
3D model is something a lot of people ask for but don't really understand what the purpose is for it. Now I've jumped a little on the ban wagon. Mostly because I'm really fast with 3D modelling. And it's asked a lot as service.  But a lot of people have a misconception about this. They think you can build with just a 3D model especially if you have NO experience in building.

Let's talk about a lot of misconceptions:
1) 3D Model equals building phase
Nope you have to make the technical drawings/ workdrawings for the builder. 3D model sole purpose is for aesthetics. It's not for the building phase at all. Is for the client to understand what will be build

2) 3D Model is in the technical drawing package
Nope this is an entirely different service apart from technical drawings. This means you have to be okay paying the same amount as the technical drawings.

3) Architects experience and speed means it should be cheap
You pay for the quality. You pay for the experience of being really fast. You pay for expertise. A good architect can make the design really quick because of our experience. We also can guarantee that we see the design and building mistakes from the get go to correct.

4) we have endless corrections
Wrong again. Read the offer or contract thoroughly.  Most architect's give a certain amount of corrections within the service and after that you are paying on the hour. It doesn't matter how much you think that you can explain it's a simple addition.

5) 24/7 contact
Sorry but these are online E-Design services. This is not wall street. Don't contact anybody after working hours and if that is your only time possible. You'll receive a response during the architects working hours. Vice versa. I don't contact any of my client's via WhatsApp late at night or too early. Mailing that is entirely different. The person doesn't have to respond right away.

6) leave it to the professional
If you don't have any trust in the person. Hire somebody else. Don't take the person services and ask for the weirdest requests that imply the drafter or architect doesn't know what they are doing.

7) don't ask for the company to put your name on the drawing
If I have a project as freelancer. I put the freelance company name and if not. If I am your architect than this is the weirdest and most corrupt thing to ask. NO... your name doesn't come under the name of the drawing.

What to expect from RC Designs Architectural Studio?
- online consultation
- sketches from site/layout en facades in Google sketchup
- two additions free possible after that costs are included.

Now we offer 3D model for three different purposes.
- Full 3D Model package
This is the same experience as when you ask for 2D technical drawings but in 3D. Preliminary to definitive experiences.
- One side 3D model service
That would be if you need to design a room; interior design. Or paint, choose windows etc. ; exterior design.
- within the 2D technical drawings package
We offer the preliminary design while making it in Google sketchup. This can also be with just hand made sketches but it makes my design process easier to draw in Google sketchup in the beginning because you can export it in CAD files really easy. This is mostly done with project's that ask for the full design process. Just for time management purposes.

Now let's talk about this years 3D projects. Since starting my business I've had my first 3D model last year.
Project kitchen/washroom
This project started with an easy exterior service. The client wanted to figure out what she could do with her home to make the exterior more her liking. She loved my work and I got two interior project's directly month's further.

Project roadtrip
The end of last year. I got a client via a WhatsApp group. They needed 3D model for a small house extension design. And that turned into him asking me to draft for his storage area. Both project were my first long drives alone. And google maps was my friend.

Project mother's day
This project is for a client's aunt. He is just between person. I choose to create the preliminary design in 3D because I needed time and showcase the drawings as 2D facades. When busy with multiple project's.  Time is important to be managed  correctly.  But it backfired a little with a lot of additions and going back to first draft with small corrections. The client seemed to love this way but took awhile to not make mistake nr. 2 and 4. But I'm happy they are enjoying the design process.
