Will AI take over? | RCD Article

Hello RCD readers,

The question of the day " Will AI take over?"

Let's start with the most important questions for.

What is AI?
Artificial intelligence is the science of making machines that can think like humans. It can do things that are considered "smart." AI technology can process large amounts of data in ways, unlike humans. The goal for AI is to be able to do things such as recognize patterns, make decisions, and judge like humans.

What does AI mean for Architecture?
AI can assist architects in identifying patterns or correlations between various factors in materials research, which a human might overlook. This could reveal new opportunities for innovation, potentially leading to the development of groundbreaking architectural materials in the future.

AI has simplified a lot in Architecture. From easy rendering possibilities, to easy layouts etc. What I haven't noticed yet and maybe coming is the design process self.

Easy go to Designs. Is this a good trend?
The New trend is easy go to designs without one conversation about client's wishes. The client removes the design process entirely hoping this will be quicker and cheaper. Less time to design which have to mean less money to pay. As a friend reminded me last month as a tip. Now of course I am the person who always second guess and overthinks. And always tries to figure out if they might be right. So I took some time to evaluate this critique. Happy for the advice but it's a no. Every client eventually has to go back to the OG traditional design process. Which means consultation-program of requirements and with that the design process begins.

I did talked about this already in 2022. The newest trend I haven't jumped on the wagon.

Will AI replace architects?
According to Ayalon, “AI will not replace architects, but architects who use AI will replace those who don't.” “This pre-empts the need for aimless post hoc scrutiny of design options that generative design often leads us into,” said Locke.

I would have to agree with that. I don't know about every profession but in mine profession if you don't educate yourself with new software's and stay up to date the the technology following your field you will be left behind. I have to agree with that. That is where a lot of Architect stay in their own way and let ego take over. Yes new students will know more because they will learn the newest technology at the time. But if you have the mindset of always a student and never a master. You'll be able to embrace change, educational critique and always be evolving as a person and company.

I'm not going to start explaining which AI software's or App you can download. But I will say this. If you don't try to educate yourself you'll fail in this industry.
