Downsizing but why ?| Day in the life RCD

 

Hello RCD readers,

Downsizing is minimizing your finances by changing your house design.

The world economic state.

In Suriname we've gotten a big economic hit. This from our political failed choices , corruptions, misuse of state money, incorrect and not well planned government programs. The pandemic made it worst and our politicians would love us to think that the war is also a big impact of why things are going wrong. When it's just greed of humanity by making misfortune people suffer by maximizing their prices for no apparent reason at all.

Our parents and grandparents 

If we as normal daily working people feel the struggle, how about our parents and grandparents. The greatest gift that I can give my parents and deceased grandparents is to be financially stable in life. We are adults we need to work for our dreams and our parents can help us sometimes the rest of the way. But we have to responsible enough to not rely on them anymore because they need us more. 

Downsizing is an option.But why?

• Some elders are not able to maintain their houses. The grass being cut or the house getting annually paint job etc. The money required to this isn't adding up. 
• Some elders are unable to clean their entire house anymore.
• Some elders the house is to big two or sometimes one person (elder) to live in.
• Some elders get lonely.

In Suriname what are our options?

Culturally based

Kids now adults don't leave the home. 

It's like a village. Brothers and sisters with their families build on the property and live with each other.

Parents living in your home

Sometimes people take their parents into the home. It's mostly when they aren't physically able to take of themselves and need medical attention. 

My own situation

*I'm kinda in this state of my life.I still live with my mother. She needs extra assistance. In which my mother needs help taking care of her self. Weekly doctor's check up, helping maintain the house and we all help pitch in for the bills.

They pitch in the maintain, clean the house and pay for all the bills. I've seen my mother and aunt's do this. And I do the same. 

What do I think people's their options are?

Downsizing

• Redesigning your house into office or apartment designs
• Redesigning and extending into apartment studio's

Move into retirement facility

• House
• Apartment
  
• Medical room
