Hello RCD readers,
The month is coming to an end, and this week went by in a flash. You know that saying, "If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans"? That was the absolute summary of my week.
I started off with a nice, organized mindset: wrap up a set of preliminary drawings early, then focus on finishing the definitive drawings the following week. God took one look at my schedule and said, "Yeah, we’re not doing that. Sit your ass down."
πMonday
I kicked off the week tackling some belated financial admin. After that, I drove out to pick up a deposit for ongoing Project B—a run I had hastily planned over the weekend. My mindset was clear: get straight to drafting CAD drawings. But of course, my car made sure to let me know it knew I’d just gotten paid. Auto troubles fixed!π€£
On the bright side, I thanked my brother for a great referral and for the absolute best gift ever: my amazing new mouse π.
By nighttime, I was completely kaput. Done for the day. But mom is always right, so I listened to her voice in my head and pushed through just one hour of work to make up for a day spent handling real life and admin.
πTuesday
A normal, uninterrupted workday with no appointments—bliss! I got a massive amount of CAD work done at night for Project B.
➡️In the morning, I wrapped up Project W from the night before so the client could review it.
➡️In between tasks, I sketched out the site layout concept from last week’s site visit for potential Project M. I felt super inspired by this one! I came up with several breezy, tropical architecture concepts slightly outside my usual comfort zone, but I would really love the honor of bringing this project to life.
πWednesday
➡️Time for a site walkthrough for another potential project.
➡️Since the client scheduled it for the afternoon, I spent the early morning wearing my marketing hat. September is my yearly studio break, but content still needs to go out! I scheduled a month of simple, non-copyrighted architectural inspiration posts.
➡️In the afternoon, I did a follow-up with another client regarding her Hypothecair Uittreksel. While pulling land registry documents isn't officially part of my scope, keeping things moving ensures her building permit process goes smoothly and meets her construction deadline.
➡️By nighttime, I finalized the tropical site plot concept along with its fee proposal.
πNow, waiting on feedback! (Though I’ve realized I’ll have to let one potential project go if I want to deliver my current workload on time).
πThursday
What a doozyπ€ͺ. Just when I thought Thursday would be my peak productive day, π
chaotic side-quests took over—unnecessary expenses and driving all over the place just to grab food. By the end of it, I was exhausted.πͺ
π₯°A conversation with a friend completely shifted my perspective. I was suddenly washed with a feeling of grace: extending grace toward other people’s mistakes rather than letting anger take over or reacting in kind. Releasing that frustration brought peace, even if my workload didn't slow down! π€£ don't get me wrong I still needed multiple prayers.
➡️I really had to head-scratch over Wednesday's site conditions to map out the workload and create a realistic timeline that wouldn't compromise my ongoing commitments. Balancing a fair pricing structure—per square meter versus hourly—took real effort, but hitting that sweet spot was essential before sending off the quote.
πFriday & The Weekend
So, what’s the plan today?
✅️I started the morning emailing out yesterday's work.
✅️blogging
➡️Next up: diving into financial admin to finally close out July and August (yes, I’m late... haha!).
➡️After that, I’m drafting the foundation plans and structural cross-sections for Project B so I can get the client’s final review before pushing ahead with preliminary drawings.
➡️I'm heading into the weekend tired, but it's time to put my "Aunty Hat" on for my nieces and nephews. They’re on school break, Aunty is definitely not, and they quite literally do not care! So my tired ass will be entertaining this weekend.
Have a blessed weekend, everyone! May you try choosing silence when anger creeps up, and extend a little extra grace when life gets hectic. Stay calm, stay professional, and focus on solutions.
