The Art of the Reset | Day in the life RCD

Hello RCD readers,

We often talk about the hustle, the blueprints, and the technical milestones that define our careers. But today, I want to talk about the "other side of the coin"—the reason we push so hard in the first place.

This past weekend, I found myself completely unplugged from the office. Between managing a fast-paced renovation project and navigating the complexities of the design process, I realized that my best work doesn't happen when I’m running on empty. It happens when I am refreshed, grounded, and present.

I spent time connecting with someone dear to me, and watching the walls come down—trading stories, laughter, and questions—reminded me why we build foundations in our personal lives just as carefully as we do in architecture.

Finding Your Rhythm

To prepare for the week ahead, I made a conscious choice to step back. No notifications, no project updates. Instead, I focused on the simple things that shift my perspective:

  • Create a Sanctuary: Whether it’s organizing your space or just moving to the rhythm of your favorite music, find what clears the mental clutter. A clean space often leads to a clear mind.
  • Fuel Your Intentions: Plan your week, including the small joys—like preparing meals you genuinely look forward to—that keep you energized.
  • The Power of Letting Go: We all encounter moments where we wish others could simply move forward. I’ve learned that growth is found in the future, not in seeking validation from the past. When you outgrow a season or a connection, offer grace, leave it in God’s hands, and keep your focus forward. Looking back doesn't help you build; it only keeps you standing still.

I’m entering this week feeling exhausted ( the marathon of cleaning and having fun within only two days), yet mentally sharper and more at peace than I have been in a long time.

Whatever you are building right now—a project, a career, or a new chapter—don’t forget to protect the person doing the building. Take the time to reset. Your future self will thank you for the clarity you find today.
