Led by Vision, Guided by Faith

Hello RCD Readers,
Did you know that your girl is actually a pro when it comes to administration? It’s in the genes. My mother worked for years after her retirement, and as a child, I was fascinated by her typewriter. By the age of four, I was already a typing pro—long before I actually knew how to read!

Fast forward to when I was 18. When my big brother needed an administrative assistant, my mother asked me to step in. My days were packed: I worked from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM, then rushed home to get ready for "schakel"—the night school bridge to university. My hours were roughly 4:00 PM to 9:15 PM daily. People couldn’t understand how I still did ballet that year, but I made it work. I even practiced with the younger kids just to keep my basics sharp and stay in the game.

The Beginning
My brother is an optician. He trained right here in Suriname through a program his former employer provided. His boss had a huge vision, and my brother worked there for years. But eventually, he decided he wanted a bigger dream for himself.

He planned everything, but as my mother and I always say: This business, this dream, this optics store, is God-owned. When the Lord is the leader of your business, He protects it, provides the clients, and fuels the vision.

The Origin Story
I remember those first months so clearly—the enthusiasm on his face as he designed the furniture and hand-picked the frames for his store. I was there getting every nook in order for the grand opening, registering glasses into the system. He was so "in the zone" that he brought his baby sis home late every single night! 🙈

I remember the opening day. He was just as shy as I am, so he did the smart thing and asked our grandmother to give the speech. That was the last year she was with us; she passed away from cancer the following year.

To the Present
More than 16 years later, we find ourselves in a similar moment—another milestone that only God could have pushed. A change only the Lord could have envisioned. I won’t talk about the why, but I will tell you the how.

Optiek Eyeplus has a new location: Zonnebloemstraat 23 (next to @Lobby restaurant).

It feels like déjà vu. Seeing him work with the carpenters to set up the furniture and technical equipment feels like watching a domino effect of blessings falling into his lap. Of course, there were misses along the way, but we always found a way to bounce back. Today, he is finally ready to accept clients again.

My Part
This time, my role wasn't administration. The business has grown so much that those tasks are now automated or delegated. Instead, I had the fun part: Marketing Strategy.

I’ve been working to ensure you see the behind-the-scenes and feel connected to this new milestone. Was it hectic for me? Hell yes. Between my own deadlines, my personal tasks, and making sure I don't miss a single day of ballet, my plate was full. But that is unconditional family love—when they need you, you stop and do what needs to be done. No questions asked.
